Often we receive requests for antique clocks for sale in South Africa. Its always been an ambition of Herman Holtzhausen to fulfill the requests of these customers of ours too.

As in all our offerings we do not offer anything for sale until we know exactly what it is our custmer desires and what it is that we can offer. In these post-colonial times we have found many clocks of unknown origin or value that pass as antiques. To be forthright, we even purchased one of these beautiful clocks and it stands in our lounge. Its not for sale!

After almost 40 years in the clock industry, we have now gained enough experience and have a network second to none, that ensures our customers of only the best pedigreed long case, mantel and bracket clocks and Vienese Regulators. All come with certificates of authentication, ie origin and value.

All the antiques we source come with refurbished movements. This is not a re-built movement. Restoration is an art which seeks the balance between functionality (you do want to purchase an item that functions as it should) and value (you want as much of the original clock in its original condition as possible). To achieve this balance we work with our network of qualified horologists, locally and internationally.

9 TUBULAR BELL LIMITED EDITION Everest

Tamboti

This clock houses the flagship nine tubular bell cable driven Hermle movement. The Luxus dial features the four cornices with raised borders surrounding filigree netting, which is repeated in the center of the dial. The brass aluminium roman numerals are laid onto a brass aluminium dial ring, making for an understated luxurious dial. It is pictured in Tamboti, a dense grained timber that creates a depth dimension in its marble finish. The nine Tubular bells, visible behind the weights and pendulum, sound the Westminster, Whittington, and St Michael melodies, and has an automatic night silencer option. Whilst housing the largest movement, the cabinet is styled along classic English grandfather clock lines. Glass side panels allow light to play on the nine tubular bells.

This Yellowwood clock should then also be a Floor Clock like the Howard Miller La Rochelle, or not?

If not then, what is the distinction?

Grandfather, grandmother and granddaughter are all names ascribed to Floor clocks. A Floor clock is any free standing clock that is made for the interior of a dwelling or building. Colloquilly we started referring to clocks above 6ft as Grandfather, under 6ft as Grandmothers and under 5ft as granddaughters. It has become fasionable to speak about Floor clocks again simply because a clock like Kieninger’s 1026-02-01 doesn’t fit comfortably with the name “grandfather”.
